For 464 years São Paulo has been the city of business, architecture, innovation and opportunities!

For 464 years São Paulo has become more accessible and welcoming.

This is an anniversary post to the most frenetic, but also the most lovable megalopolis.

Congratulations, São Paulo!

In 2009 the extension work of the Subway Station 5- Lilás Line started, there are 11 stations (Adolfo Pinheiro, Alto da Boa Vista, Borba Gato, Brooklin, Campo Belo, Eucaliptos, Moema, AACD-Servidor, Hospital São Paulo, Santa Cruz and Chácara Klabin), to improve access to hospital complexes such as Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Santo Amaro, Hospital Alvorada, Hospital do Servidor Público Estadual, Hospital Edmundo Vasconcelos, Hospital de Rim e Hipertensão, Maternidade do Amparo Maternal, Hospital São Paulo, Hospital Santa Cruz, Hospital Sepaco and specialized centers for treatments such as AACD, APAE e Lar Escola São Francisco, as well.

The new stations will operate by stages, starting this month until April 2018, except for the Campo Belo station, scheduled to operate only in December 2018.

In addition, this expansion will boost the development of regions along the Lilás Line 5, allowing access to important business centers.

We hope that we can always count on improvements in our city such as this expansion of Line 5 of the subway, which we are proud to be part of! Avec is participating in all the glazing projects!

We bring color and beauty for our loved and gray city!

The Brazilian Association of Flat Glass Distributors and Processors is a non-profit entity that brings together companies from the glass sector all over the country and unions and regional associations as well.

Founded in 1990, they work for the development of the Brazilian glass industry and they monitor the evolution of the material and its use in the construction, automobile, furniture and decoration areas.

We are grateful for the partnership with Atenua Som and for having the opportunity to participate in this project. We installed a partition with four glass sheets, two fixed at the ends and two movable in the center. The Cebrace’s Diamant (extra clear) glass pieces (1,20 height and 2,60 width) were tempered (10 mm thick) and received a Speed Temper digital print by Israeli Dip-Tech technology.

To ensure the installation’s perfect acoustic performance, Avec Design encapsulated the glass pieces: they received silicone profiles at their edges, allowing perfect coupling. In addition, the door tracks and guides were floor to ceiling built-in. The pulls are made of extra clear glass (19mm) and the system fixation by UV glue.

THE SHOPPING MALL

The oldest shopping center in Goiás, opened in 1981 with its first expansion in 1996. The name choice was due to the fact that, at that time, Flamboyant was one of the most abundant and popular trees of Goiânia. With more than 132,000 m² of built area is among the largest malls in Brazil.

It is an absolute leader in the Goian market and it is considered a mark of the State retail commerce. It is also a leisure and entertainment landmark for the population of Goiás.

GLAZING TECHNOLOGY APPLIED TO THE ENTERPRISE

Avec Design used in this project the Uniglazing System of prefabricated frames that allow the assembly of the stainless steel supports between two frames to fix the system over the cover. With 2,900 m² of modern and high transparency glass and 1,500 m² of motorized solar screens, the project is considered the largest ever built with this solution.

The Flamboyant Shopping Mall expansion, the main commercial center of Goiânia, has an unprecedented solution for glazing metallic structures.
The architect Antônio Paulo Cordeiro of the CDCA Rio de Janeiro wanted maximum transparency and, in spite of the enormous glass evolution in the last 30 years, there is still no glass with high thermal performance that is not mirrored.

On a neutral Habitat Cebrace glass were applied external micro perforated screens, which are closed at times of high sunlight. They use the indoor hall blinds of Soltis 86 Ferrari, a French company, considered the best in the world with 13% of light transmission and 25% of solar factor of (only 25% of the heat enters), but still maintaining the transparency. When the day is cloudy or during night time the screens remain retracted, providing total transparency.

Applied by the Solar System of São Paulo, the system belongs to the Italian Resstende with the TK (Traction Kit) technology, which remains stretched even with strong winds.
The mechanical components are all made of stainless steel, aluminum and bronze, being immune to aging. And the engines are from Sonfy with 100Mn.

The product provides benefits such as: Controlled interaction with the external environment; Transparency and beauty; Light control; Thermal and acoustic comfort; Lack of maintenance, among others.

The installation was completed in January 2015. However, the shopping users have been using the technology since November 2014, a pleasant light and thermal control with low energy consumption.

We want to reinforce a popular subject which is currently being discussed: the use of glass in stadiums. Brazil, the host of this year’s World Cup is a prime example of how this subject is becoming a reality in today’s design.

According to our director Jose Guilherme, the greatest contribution of modern glass (material) is the ability to have complete control between the relation of the exterior and interior environment. We are able to determine the light transmission, solar energy, acoustic performance, color, reflection and security of the glass, which you desire.

In stadiums glass is being used because of its transparency, high durability level, and new technical features.

Let’s think in terms of practical application of glass within stadiums:

Glass facades give an aspect of modernity and they are easy to maintain;

Glass skylights protect fans from the weather, heat, and harmful UV rays;

Glass barrier fan section dividers offer transparency;

Glass guard railings ensure safety without limiting a fan’s view of the match.

To resolve all of these issues in stadiums and sport arenas, notably laminated glass is the best recommendation because it uses true safe glass which even in large quantity almost becomes invisible because it does not give off any form of reflection, (blending it into the surrounding environment).

Let’s now look at some examples to understand all these advantages. The Itaquera Arena in São Paulo contains in its two main facades extra clear curved glass made in Italy with high technology. On the east facade, using organic geometry, the pieces of glass are not repeated; each piece of glass has a shape different from the others! On the west: the curved glass contains LEDs which work as a giant screen! A factor that is impressing everyone is the use of photovoltaic glass, which produces solar electricity. An example of this new technology is the stadium Mineirão in Belo Horizonte which uses photovoltaic glass. According to José Guilherme, Brazil has a huge potential to generate renewable solar energy, but has not explored this potential yet.

Let’s now look at the Pernambuco Arena which was completed with our participation (with our technology directly). The overhead cover of the Arena uses our unitized system Uniglazing: which attached to the nodes of the spherical spatial structure.

We could produce the frames and assemble simultaneously. The 22 Modules that divided the skylight were assembled and glazed on the ground level, and then directly lifted by a crane (for installation). The production and assembly speed allowed the short deadlines required for the Confederation cup in 2013 to be met.

28 truckloads were need to deliver the total 1565 pre-fabricated frames covering a total of 6000m² of the Pernambuco Arena.

If you have already had the pleasure of seeing or will have the pleasure to see the Pernambuco Arena in the upcoming World Cup, you will understand what we are talking about!

Here comes the 2014 World Cup of Brazil!

The Council of Architecture and Urbanism in Brazil (CAU / BR) established in 2011 that the 15th of December would be The National Day of Architects and Urbanists, in honor of the world famous architect Oscar Niemeyer, who was born on this date.

There is nothing more precise than honoring this Brazilian artist, who inspires many young architects and students today!

These professionals have the courage and ability to unite functionality and aesthetics in their projects. They have the gift to turn rows and lines into dreams and dreams into reality! They are professionals who create a concept on paper and translate our needs by offering comfort.

Avec Design is proud to be part of these professionals routine every day. CONGRATULATIONS!

This year will be marked by a revolutionary new for the construction industry: the NBR 15575 new standard!

This standard, called “Housing Performance”, was approved in February and will be published in July. The standard will bring new requirements and prerequisites to transform our current scenario, adding quality and best performance for the next properties to be built. This standard applies to the minimum performance level, but we will also have the intermediate and superior level, which will be optional for projects.

From now on the consumers have their rights and they will finally have comfort and security. The most frequently reported problems: noise from the floor/ceiling of neighbors, no soundproof in the dorms, noisy toilet and windows and doors that do not isolate outside noises from the streets.

Good news for consumers: the new standard requires a minimum performance for sound reduction, using coatings, windows and doors with superior quality and better hydro-sanitary installations.

The structures were becoming lighter, thinner walls, windows and doors without quality. The result? People began to suffer and have problems in executing their activities (sleeping, leisure, concentration, etc.) due to noise. And finally the standard will require an awareness of the sector.

Speaking about sound reduction, have you ever analyzed your windows? Those windows which have two aluminum sheets and a single sheet of glass will not be accepted anymore, their acoustical performance is unfortunate and it is impossible to achieve 100% of natural light, since one half is always closed.

Glass is an excellent acoustic attenuator due to its mass, but the weak point however is the frame or the perimeter surrounding the glass, which is not a problem if the entire system has good quality.

Due to the new standard, consumers will know the acoustic performance level of their windows (minimum, intermediate and superior).

This graph shows the difference of the tests made in the Atenua Som laboratory, between the V.E.S. windows (our own technology, called “Silicone Encapsulated Glass” ) and the other market products.

According to the tests and the new standard, our windows reach the highest level. Consumers will find the following label in our products:

The standard motivates people to always require the best, it is not only about the technical performance of buildings, but also the improvement of everyone’s quality of life, which involves well-being and health.

Consequently, architects, engineers and also consumers should care about the environmental comfort, which can be understood by the adequacy of the physical environment alongside human input, improving the ventilation, thermal, acoustic, and light conditions of buildings.

The acoustic performance is not visible to the eyes, but it should be considered in all the projects. Everyone needs to be able to work and rest. It depends on us as individuals to make decisions that enable us to live a better and happier life.

Today, June 5th, is the Environment Day! The word “sustainability” has been discussed and currently being “sustainable” is almost a requirement. Companies have sought to sustainable development, which means meeting present needs and also future generations.

People think that economic growth must be increased, along with the use of natural resources, exploring the most of what is in the environment, but actually this is the greatest threat to us and to the future generations, since natural resources are finite. So the challenge is the economic growth increasing and the use of natural resources decreasing.

In the construction field we know that the environmental impacts are considerable. The International Council of Construction – CIB points to the construction industry as the sector that consumes more natural resources and uses energy intensively.

What is necessary to improve in the construction field? Reduction and optimization of materials consumption and energy!
That is what we do! Speaking specifically of our products, we always prioritize the sustainable development! Our products provide savings in electricity consumption, either for cooling or heating environments, due to the technical performance of the materials. The modern glass can filter the sun’s rays, selectively, reducing up to 80% the heat input inside, without reducing the brightness let in by the glass. That is the reason why we can reduce the use of artificial lighting and air conditioning.

Another advantage is recycling potential. A practical example is the restoration of the Brasilia Cathedral(Oscar Niemeyer’s project), where 70 tons of the glass were 100% recycled by Cebrace and the glass now are present in thousands of Brazilian windows. It is also important to remember that nowadays we have the photovoltaic glass, which allow the absorption of solar radiation and convert it to electricity. Have you heard about it?

Another interesting point of our products is the materials reduction, we reduce (and sometimes we eliminate completely) the use of the aluminum, compared to conventional products. 5 ton of bauxite is used to produce only 1 ton of aluminum and, in addition, a huge energy consumption for its production is necessary. We believe that the aluminum application should be rational and conscious.

By drastically reducing or eliminating the use of aluminum, the energy consumption and the GHG emissions (GHGs) are reduced by at least 50% compared to conventional systems, according to the study:

There are many actions to be taken, we can have a sustainable world, it is up to the professionals to know what to prioritize and the consumers to choose the best option!

Not only for the World Environment Day, but every day, you should do your part!

The JK shopping mall is an example of sustainability and its architecture displays luxury.

Ecologically speaking, the project saves water and energy, different from others. As an example the system that captures water and reuses it for toilets and gardens and the sensor technology for taps as well, both reinforce the purpose of the project about avoiding wastage.

The JK Shopping mall was built to be different not only in relation to energy efficiency, but also sophistication and aesthetics.

People who have been there know that one of the main features is the natural light that enters inside the mall. The glass facades and the skylights allow a pleasant light transmission, avoiding the use of artificial light.

The system is the Ecoglazing: an encapsulated glass (in its entire perimeter) by a HTV (High Temperature Vulcanized) silicone rubber frame, which is an evolution of traditional Strutural Glazing systems, resulting in an unmatched transparency. The glass pieces have a double chemical fixation by a structural adhesive and also a mechanically fixation (this system is also used in other projects like the Unique Hotel, Cathedral of Brasilia, subway stations of São Paulo, etc.).

As curiosity:

The glass used in this project is a double 34mm insulated laminated solar control and the area is 2700m ² (900 pieces of 1.95 x 1.60m weighing 175kg)

In addition, the structure has three levels which were used in the support system of the glass. The first structure is the main carbon steel beam and, below the skylight there is a secondary structure, also made of carbon steel, which is supported by tie rods connected to the main beam. And the encapsulated glass is on the third layer of aluminum structure.

The structure of three levels gives the impression of being light because the heavy part of the main beam is concealed by the secondary and tertiary structures.

The mall is even more sophisticated because of the cubes and the decorative panels. With approximately 88 pieces of laminated tempered extra clear glass of 6 meters (with silver threads) and 18 pieces of an average measured of 4.50 m (with golden rectangles).

On the side of the biggest skylight there are three glass cubes surrounding walkways, forming a rectangular tunnel of 6m deep. The glass pieces of 700Kgs are fixed by special stainless steel screws.

The project is innovative with a huge variety of stores, both national and international brands.

The architecture project delights and innovates. It’s more than just a shopping mall, the JK is a new concept.
